Some of you may recognize this flagpole. It is a 200 foot flagpole at 1100 W. Grand Ave. (Grand & Aberdeen)

It was dedicated to all first responders.

It is adjacent to the Kennedy Expressway. It is highly visible as you enter downtown Chicago.

Veterans Day (originally known as Armistice Day) is a federaholiday in the United States observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans, who are people who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

It coincides with other holidays including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day which are celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the Armistice with Germany went into effect.

At the urging of major U.S. veteran organizations, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

We were able to spend some time today with several Veterans. It is just amazing to hear their stories, and all that they went through. It was our honor to be able to spend some time with them.

To all our military veterans – past, present and future – we support and honor you. Thank you for your service and sacrifice, and to the military families who lend their support every day.
Please take time today, tomorrow or any day to thank a Veteran.
